At Unit 5 Architects, we are passionate about creating buildings that not only meet but exceed our clients' expectations. Our experienced and dedicated team has been bringing inspiration, design ideas, and a depth of experience to create buildings that respect and complement their environment for over 15 years. With offices based in Glasgow, we undertake projects primarily in the UK, with a focus on delivering high-quality, sustainable, and functional spaces that enhance the lives of their owners and users.

Our Services

We pride ourselves on our unique and collaborative approach to architecture. Our team of experienced architects, led by directors Lynne Hill and Fiona Merrylees, work closely with clients to understand their aspirations and needs. We use this information to develop designs that are tailored to each project's specific requirements.

Our Process

Our process is designed to ensure a unique and successful collaboration between client, architect, building contractor, and other specialists. We break our projects into five stages, each designed to carefully manage the complexities of the design and construction process:

Stage 1: Brief

We begin by listening to and exploring our clients' aspirations and needs. We use our skill, knowledge, and experience to develop a thorough understanding of the project's objectives and constraints.

Stage 2: Design

Building on the brief, we develop the design, carefully considering context, purpose, materials, and energy efficiency. We often present options for our clients to consider, ensuring that we are working towards a shared understanding of the project's objectives.

Stage 3: Statutory Permissions

We guide clients through the often-complex processes of obtaining planning permissions, listed buildings, and conservation area consents, as well as building regulations. We work closely with our clients to engage structural engineers and other specialist consultants as required.

Stage 4: Tender/Contract

We advise clients on the tender process, working with consultants to fully cost projects, create contracts, and appoint contractors. We can also continue to work on site to administer the contract and deliver the completed project.

Stage 5: On Site

We can work on a stage-by-stage basis or from project conception through to completion. Our aim is to ensure that every project is delivered to the highest standards, with our clients' needs at the forefront of our minds.

Unit 5 Architects was founded in 2007 by Lynne Hill and Fiona Merrylees. With over 25 years of combined experience, our directors have built a diverse client base, stretching from London to the north of Scotland. Our team is dedicated to delivering exceptional results, and we are proud members of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS).
