Energy Efficiency

At WK Design Architects, we're passionate about energy efficiency and have experience in delivering new build Passivhaus and low-energy homes. We continuously strive to improve our knowledge and detailing for a better quality of construction on site in all of our projects.

Energy efficiency is a vital consideration in today's landscape, and we believe that good design can play a significant role in reducing our carbon footprint. We understand the importance of designing and detailing spaces with a low space heating demand, incorporating renewable energy technologies such as solar panels and/or heat pumps, and avoiding the demand in the first place.

Why Consider Energy Efficiency?

Energy efficiency is a critical consideration in modern building design. The energy used in housing accounts for 28% of the total energy used in the UK, with 60% of this being used to heat our homes. The government is slowly changing the Building Regulations towards an increase in insulation levels and a reduction of air leakage in new-build homes. We're working with our clients to reduce energy consumption and fuel bills further on new builds and extensions with a 'fabric-first' approach.
