Welcome to John Coward Architects, a RIBA Chartered practice established in 1991. We are based in the picturesque village of Cartmel, south Cumbria, on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Our practice has grown steadily over the years to become one of the region's largest architectural firms. We are committed to high standards and providing a professional service to all our clients.

We are interested in all types and sizes of architectural projects for both domestic and commercial clients. Many of our projects involve the conversion, extension, and alteration of existing buildings, specializing in understanding the region's very particular vernacular building types. Our approach is tailored towards the specific requirements of each individual client.

We excel at the design and delivery of new build bespoke houses of all sizes. Our team of experts is well-equipped to handle projects ranging from small alterations to large-scale commercial developments, as well as conservation architecture. We are experts in understanding our built heritage and in undertaking repair and consolidation projects, developing heritage assets for new or extended uses.

Two of our practice architects are Architects Accredited in Building Conservation (AABC), and both are Specialist Conservation Architects on the RIBA Conservation Register. This expertise, combined with our passion for the region's unique heritage, makes us a trusted partner for projects involving historic buildings.

Our team is highly motivated and dedicated, with specialisms right across the field of architecture. We strive to continue developing our team's knowledge and skills base, ensuring we adapt to the technical advancements of our ever-changing environment. We remain a local team, living and working in the South Lakes area, fully understanding the specific needs of our wonderful region.
